There is “hot” and there is “Texas hot” – the sun is extremely strong. The design of the daylight galleries – intended to be bathed in light – used a component of direct sunlight (rather than shading it all out). Thus we needed to know how sunlight would filter through the layers of the building envelope, how much light there would be in the interior and how it would vary daily and seasonally. All of the above aspects are interlinked. The limited time available for design acted as a driver in the techniques we used to keep pace with the evolution of the design.
