Business

These companies use Radiance software to provide services to their clients.

  • Artifex Home Page
Artifex is a research and design studio exploring applications in 3d visualization, animation, and World Wide Web Communications. (Bloomington, IN)
  • Artifice, Inc. makers of DesignWorkshop.
DesignWorkshop is a Macintosh and Windows modeling application which exports to Radiance and is closely linked to a version of Radiance which runs under MachTen on the Apple PowerMac. This site also features a gallery of images.
  • Fraunhofer ISE Radiance Page
Radiance raytracing software is used at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) mainly for daylighting calculations. (Germany)
  • Rayfront by Georg Mischler
Rayfront is a full graphical user interface to Radiance for daylighting and electrical lighting designers, supporting Windows, Linux, Irix, and Solaris. It can be run as an AutoCAD or IntelliCAD application, or as a stand alone program that imports DXF geometry data. (Germany)
  • 3D Lighting by ALware
The planning tool 3D Lighting is designed for the early design phase of buildings. It integrates the software 3Dsolar with Rayfront and Radiance. 3Dsolar offers fast input and easy modification of 3D geometries, as well as optimized export to Rayfront. Simulation results can be analysed and documented in side-to-side comparison of variations. Supported platforms are Windows and Linux (Germany).
  • NASA Graphics Research and Analysis Facility (GRAF)
The Flight Crew Support Division at the NASA Johnson Space Center uses Radiance to prepare for complex maneuvers with the space shuttle. Go to the "Lighting Analysis" page for some stunning comparisons between actual photographs and simulated images.
  • Robert Kay's Radiance page with Macintosh advice
Robert has posted some rendered images of objects on the web. He has had success using Radiance on PowerPCs, and shows that Radiance can do more than just architectural renderings. (Bergdesign, TX)
  • VisArc Architectural Visualization
This company provides a range of image-based products to facilitate the communication of architectural intention in the design process. (Charlestown, MA)
  • Open Entry Technical Light Design
OpenEntry offers physically correct simulation of light, technical light design and visualization of 3D models. Their goal is to be able to perform physically correct lighting simulation of any 3D model and to evaluate the results.
