Hi Josef,

Lvl of the equation is the veiling luminance according to
Stiles-Holladay and used in the CIE publications for disability glare.
You can calculate Lvl by evalglare, it is one of the outputs if you use
the -d option. the evalglare output is called "Lveil_cie", dont mix it
up with "Lveil", which is the disability equation according to Pointer
and differs a lot to the CIE equation.

For your configuration, I would de-activate the peak extraction (by
using the -x option) and use a meaningful absolute threshold for glare
source detection (e.g. 2000 cd/m2).

The second part of the GR equation (Lve) cannot be solved by
image-evaluation automatically, since it uses the average horizontal
illuminance (not vertical). So you have to measure it separately and
calculate the GR manually.

The bigger challenge is to measure accurately this situations with a HDR
camera, since you will deal very probably with flicker (discharging
lamps, led..). As a general rule you need to restrict the shortest
exposure time to 10/f (f: frequency of the flicker). At the same time
should be the maximum pixel value of the shortest exposure time not more
than 200 (better lower) to avoid pixel overflow.

For high luminance light sources it is hard to comply with both rules at
the same time. So you have to check, if you need to use a filter and use
longer exposure times.

A second thing you have to consider is, that you need to have the right
lens type description in the header of the hdr image ("VIEW=...") ,
otherwise the angles (e.g. angle between line of sight=center of image
and the glare source or all solid angles) are not correctly calculated
by any software (findglare, evalglare). For perspective lenses you need
to check the viewing angles. This should be done by measurements, since
manufacturers information or not always correct and the angles might
differ for the same lens for different cameras attached to it.

Good luck!

Jan
