Downloading and unpacking rad4R0all.tar.gz  I see the README says:
    "This is the eighteenth release, Version 4.1,"
and src/rt/VERSION says:
    "RADIANCE 4.1a"

What version is this?  4.0, 4.1 or 4.1a?
