[Radiance-general] gendaylit-make-error

I'm new to Ubuntu.
download gendaylit.tar.Z from http://radsite.lbl.gov/radiance/pub/generators/
uncompress "gendaylit.tar.Z" file and get a folder named "gendaylit", and then
type "make" in command line, computer will display error:

cc -Ae -g  -c sun.c
<command line>error: missing "(" after predicate
make:***[sun.o] error 1

what does it mean?

my operating system is Ubuntu8.04, radiance 3.8
