Well, it isn't exactly quantitative validation, but with the upcoming  
release of Maxwell Render 1.0 there have been some posts recently  
touting its capabilities.

is a Cornell Box comparison (photograph versus render).  I am not  
familiar with all of the experimental conditions required from a  
valid Cornell Box, but just thought I'd pass along the interesting  
visual exercise.
