Hey Rob:

One way to check normal orientation by hand with Radiance is to assign a
temporary material using a glow material to the geometry in questions.
The "front" side will be the color of the glow while the "back" side
will be black. Rather than looking at all the geometry in question you
can use objview to look at the specific geometry of interest.
