VELUX 4th Daylight Symposium in Lausanne, 4-5 May 2011

Daylight in a human perspective

Dear all,

We are happy to announce the 4th VELUX Daylight Symposium to be held at 
the Rolex Learning Center at EPFL ? École Polytechnique Fédérale de 
Lausanne on 4 and 5 May 2011. The Rolex Center is designed by the Japanese 
practice SANAA, led by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa. The building was 
inaugurated in May 2010 ? in the same month where SANAA was given the 
Pritzker Prize for 2010. 

The theme of the 4th symposium will be ?Daylight in a human perspective? 
and will specifically focus on the effects of daylight on building 
occupants; how are we affected by daylight, and what are the requirements 
to achieve good daylit environments? The programme will provide updates on 
the scientific progress in the field as well as experiences and viewpoints 
from architectural practices. 

For the first time, the symposium will introduce an international Academic 
Forum for PhD students. The forum will provide a platform for sharing 
experience and knowledge in the field of daylighting research. A specific 
session reserved for the students will take place prior to the symposium 
and make space for individual presentations as well as discussions with 
leading experts. All PhD students in the field of daylighting are invited 
to join the Academic Forum. Limit date for abstract submission to the 
Academic Forum is 15 February 2011.

The previous daylight symposiums - held in Budapest in 2005, in Bilbao in 
2007 and in Rotterdam 2009 - brought together participants from research, 
education and architectural practices as well as legislators and lighting 
designers from all over the world.
