[Radiance-general] luminaire modelling and 'rshow' questions

Hi Christian,

Looking at your IES file, you say you want a distribution with 12 Vertical
Angles of data and 27 Horizontal angles of data. Looking at your angles,
you have indeed provided 12 Vertical angles, but you have only provided 22
Horizontal angles, (unless my eyes are deceiving me). I have checked a few
IES files I have used and converted successfully and these quantities should
match.

Also I am not sure if you have cut your lumen data up within the e-mail to
save space, but when you write the lumen data should you not have 12 x 27
(or 22) numbers, i.e. 27 (or 22) lines, each with 12 numbers in them.

I hope that helps.

Regards

Andrew

Subject: [Radiance-general] luminaire modelling and 'rshow' questions

Hello @all,

first of all thank you Greg for helping me with this color problem, i
found a mistake in my calculations, when i use rgb_xyz.cal i get the
same results now for D65 white point.

I want to model a luminaire from my measured data and as long as it is
symmetric around the z axis it all goes well. But as soon as i want to
write an .ies-file for a rectangular shaped luminaire with non
symmetrical distribution the file doesnt' work.
This is my file:
IESNA95
[TEST]
[MANUFAC] Arri Studio Cool 2
[DATE] 03/27/06
[LAMP] Osram Studioline, StudioLine55W/31VAR 2G11 FS1
TILT=NONE

1 5000 1 12[vert.] 27[horiz.] 1 1 .2[width] 0.6[Lenght] 0[height] 1 1 55

0 5 10 15 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 [vert. degrees]

0 2.5 5 7.5 10 12.5 15 17.5 20 25 30 35 40 45 50 55 60 65 70 75 80 85
[horiz. degrees]

1623 1582 1618 1693 1815 1979 2169 2185 2166 2111 2273 2511 [vert. values]

1623 1628 1634 1641 1658 1677 1705 1744 1786 1885 2064 2254 [hor. values]
 2546 2905 3247 3864 4579 6024 7642 9496 8984 30789 6024 7642
 9496 8984 30789

The [...] are only comments, i don't have them in the file normally.
When i convert the file this returns:
$ ies2rad -t white -o light/sc2  ies/sc2.ies
dosource: bad distribution data
ies/sc2.ies: bad luminaire data

I can't really find a file explanation or help on the .ies file format.
Can anyone help me on this one?
----------------------
Second question:

I tried to get 'rshow' to work, but it doesn't really do. I downloaded
from 'http://www.pab-opto.de/progs/rshow/' the Linux version but i use
Radiance under 'cygwin', a Unix emulation for WinXP, as a Unix version i
guess. Where do i have to set the environment variable, when i use
Radiance in c:\cygwin\opt\ray\bin ? I'm not used to do these things, so
i am a little bit confused where to install rshow. Can someone guide me?

Thanks,

Christian
