I'm running ranimate and I get the .pic frame files stored in the
directory
along with the .unf files. What are the .unf files 

they are the original oversized pic before resampling, exposure adjustment,
etc. with pfilt
pfilt -1 -e 1.25 -m .25 -x /3 -y /3 scene001.unf > scene001.pic
they are deleted when the animation  is completed (or sooner depending on
your Diskspace setting)
and how can you view
the
animation like a movie e.g. in some media player?
I'm on a Mac, so I convert them all to pict, and use a shareware called
Moover to make the picts a quicktime
