In principle your units can be arbitrary -- the RADIANCE code isn't 
hardwired to meters or feet. Having said that, it's up to you to make 
sure they're *consistent* with the other data you supply, for instance 
the light source emission. Note that radiometric units like radiance and 
irradiance are defined in terms of meters^2.
